Statement of Purpose
The Board of Selectmen appointed a committee of eleven (11) persons, effective March 4, 2026, to create, plan, and perform the Events for East Haddam’s Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The work required for creation, planning, and performance of these events started immediately after the appointment of the committee and will continue until the end of the year (2026). Members appointed a Chairperson and Secretary at their first meeting. Members shall serve with no compensation. The Committee meets on a regular basis and their meetings are open to the public. The Committee will not be given an initial budget. Any budget provided will be on as needed basis and subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen.
The East Haddam USA 250 Celebration Committee will work with all town and state Departments, Boards, Agencies including, but not limited to, local organizations and adjacent towns to create, plan, and perform the various events for East Haddam’s Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The East Haddam USA 250 Celebration Committee will determine the funding requirements and take steps to secure funding through grants, donations and sponsorships as much as possible.

Paint the Town Red, White & Blue
Get ready, East Haddam — it’s time to show your patriotism and celebrate America!
As part of the lead-up to America’s 250th, we’re excited to invite you to participate in our “Paint the Town Red, White & Blue” community contest. Residents and businesses are encouraged to decorate homes, storefronts, barns, and more in festive red, white, and blue. This is a fun and creative way to come together as a community and show off your pride while helping make East Haddam shine.
Contest details:
• Open to all East Haddam residents and businesses
• Contest runs May 25th – July 4th
• Submit entries by July 1st
• Winners announced July 4th
Whether you go all out with flags and lights or keep it simple and classic, every display adds to the spirit of our town.
We can’t wait to see East Haddam filled with red, white, and blue!
