Guide to using Legal.com

Step 1 - Gather Information

Organized by their area of law, you'll find information and suggestions to help you organize and focus your search for the resources you need to solve your problem. Legal.com also offers a specialized search engine, powered by Google™ that quickly and easily searches legal databases for answers to your legal questions.

Step 2 - Identify Resources

By learning more about an area of law, you are enabling yourself to make informed choices. If the matter can easily be handled by filling out a legal form, you now have access to thousands of forms that you can download to your computer, fill out, print and submit. If faced with multiple forms, you have the choice of a forms package, a self-help book (which includes instructions for filling out the forms, and has the forms either in tear-out format or on a CD supplied with the book), or a software program that guides you through filling out the forms.

If the matter is more involved, you should consult an attorney. You can use the custom search engine at the top of this page to find an attorney who is nearby, licensed in your state, and knowledgable in the area of law where you need help. Also consider a legal service plan. Within reasonable limits, there is no hourly charge for members to speak with an attorney over the phone and have the attorney look over your documents, to provide guidance for you. Complete descriptions of the plans are online. These are worth looking into!

Step 3 - Apply Resources

Once you have identified the problem and detrmined which resources are appropriate for your needs, it's time to put those resources to work for you. Remember that you may combine resources to resolve a legal problem quickly and affordably. For example, you might download and complete a legal form, enroll in and have a legal services plan attorney review your document for you, before you submit it. The total cost of the solution, in many cases, will be less than $50!
