CHATHAM HEALTH DISTRICT SEEKING PARTICIPANTS FOR ARSENIC AND URANIUM DRINKING WATER STUDY
The Chatham Health District (CHD) is working with the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) to evaluate the presence of arsenic and uranium in residential drinking water supplies (private wells). Find out more information about the safety of your drinking water, come to one of our groundwater informational sessions. Meet the professionals from DPH, CHD, local well drilling, laboratory testing and water treatment companies who will speak with you and answer questions. Some of the companies participating include Dufford Well Drilling, Sima Well Drilling and H2O Water Equipment Company.
This is part of a statewide study being conducted by the DPH and several other local health departments in Connecticut. Some private wells in towns around the state have been found to contain elevated levels of naturally occurring arsenic and uranium. To further evaluate the extent of the problem, the CHD in cooperation with the DPH will be conducting tests for arsenic and uranium at private wells in our district. Our district towns include Colchester, East Haddam, East Hampton, Haddam, Hebron, Marlborough and Portland. If you would like to participate, are served by a private well and would like to have your water tested for arsenic and uranium, please attend either informational session.
March 10th, East Hampton Community Room, 5:00 - 7:00 pm
March 12th, Colchester Town Hall, 12:00 - 2:00 pm
Bring a photo of your well cap as well as any past water testing and have our professionals examine them for possible problems. Please do not bring your own water sample to the session. Sampling containers will be given on a first come, first serve basis. The water samples will be analyzed and test reports obtained from the CT DPH certified laboratory in Rocky Hill. Also, the DPH will provide a follow up report with an explanation of the test results to all participants. There is no charge. For more information, call the Chatham Health District at 860-365-0884. Thank you.
